If you read yesterday’s #TuesdayTease then you already know the ingenious Lee Fields is headed our way this Friday. He and his band, The Expressions, play with flawlessly smooth soul riffs. I saw him for the first time at SXSW this past March at Mohawk. He was one of the closing bands. And, as I recall he came out in a white suit and blew the crowd away. Not surprising for a man who’s been on stage since the late 60s and knows his way around soul. “In a curious case of musical evolution, the older Fields becomes, the closer he gets to perfecting the sound of soul that he grew up with as a young man,” so said music writer, scholar, and DJ Oliver Wang about Fields in a piece for NPR in July 2009.

Opening up for Lee Fields is Houston’s own funk soul and rock band, Electric Attitude. They performed this year at the 2014 Houston Press Music Awards and were named Houston’s Best Soul/Funk/R&B act in 2011. Every time I’ve seen them, they’ve rocked the crowd into a frenzy.
