Janelle Monae, The Electric LadyThis week’s Tuesday Tease gives you just enough time to get coordinated. So, don’t waste any.

Tomorrow night, Janelle Monae is bringing her soulful, beautiful R&B, pop and hip-hop sound to House of Blues Houston. Tickets are only $25 today, but go up to $30 tomorrow. She has released three albums to date, “Metropolis: Suite I (The Chase)” (2007), “The ArchAndroid” (2010) and this year’s “The Electric Lady” (2013). Each more beautiful than the last, building on new skills and talents. She has worked with Erykah Badu, Miguel, and Idlewild to name a few.

Janelle is known for wearing a tuxedo during performances, wears clothes that almost always fully cover her form and often sings about androids (as her alterego Cindi Mayweather). And she was dressed as a futuristic lady or android in the artwork for all of her albums to date.  She is certainly an individual and chooses to showcase her beauty on her own terms. She says, “I feel like I have a responsibility to my community and other young girls to help redefine what it looks like to be a woman. I don’t believe in men’s wear or women’s wear, I just like what I like. And I think we should just be respected for being an individual…. I’ve been in Vogue, now, and different publications, which is cool, because I think that it just shows a different perspective of how women can dress” (via 109.com). And I’ve got nothing but support for her. Strong women are a rare commodity in the music business, and it looks to me like Janelle is making her self a role model for young women everywhere.

Take a listen to one of the tracks on her 2013 album, “The Electric Lady.”
