Sofar Sounds Chicago: An Interview
Sofar Sounds is an intimate gathering of musicians and live music fanatics at pop-up concerts in secret locations all over the world.
The Chicago chapter of Sofar is one of the most popular in the US–they hold over 20 gigs each month. As a guest, you will know the neighborhood that the event will be in, but you won’t know the exact location until the day before the show. And, you won’t know the bands until the moment you arrive. It’s a thrilling process that is carefully curated by the passionate team of volunteer and staff at Sofar Sounds Chicago.
One of these carefully curated shows featured Calle Sur, Lovejoy, ¡Esso Afrojam Funkbeat. This lineup was particularly unique because two-thirds of the bands selected sang primarily in Spanish. The concert was held at Christy Webber’s Garden near Humboldt Park. I sat down all three bands to hear their persepective on sofar, the intimacy of the concert, and to hear a little more about where they will be this summer (and what weird item they will be bringing with them.)
