This week’s Friday Finds brings you a band from Dallas, who is quickly becoming a Houston favorite. There is no other band like ISHI. Front man, J.T. Mudd brings an eccentricity that is both fun and full of authenticity. And FPSF goers, you’re in luck. They will be playing the festival on Saturday at the Mercury Stage at 6:10pm.
I had the lucky chance to chat with JT about a few things music and fashion related. Here’s what he had to say:
Lauren Ignited: When you wake up in the morning, what’s the first thing that runs through your mind?
JT: Damn, I get another day to swing for the stars. Thank you.
L: How would you describe your fashion style? Do you have anyone that you look to for fashion inspiration?
J: I’m all over the place. I like to blur the lines. The great’s our always where I start. Elvis, Bowie, MJ, Prince, Freddie Mercury etc. That will last me a life time.
L: Have any of your big life goals been realized through your work with Ishi? If so, tell me all about.
J: One comes to mind that I thought would never happen or never thought it was even possible. It is when we opened for New Order in 2012 in Dallas. A show I will never forget. We were main support and had a great show with a surprisingly terrific response. We got to meet the band and Bernard Sumner graced us with some very kind words regarding the band which truly completed our night.
L: How do you feel about Houston?
J: Our relationship with Houston continues to grow stronger every show we meet. I would say we are in our honey moon stage for sure. Honestly, any city in Texas, I have nothing but love.
L: What’s your favorite venue to play in Houston?
J: We have only played a few venues so far but I would have to say Fitzgerald’s upstairs and Warehouse Live would be a close second.
L: What band have you discovered recently that you can’t get enough of?
J: It’s a band called ‘Jungle’. Their from London and are blowing up as we speak. They have a fresh sound. It’s as if you walked into a basement party in the UK during the 80’s with a band channeling the Motown soul with crapy synthesizers. Seriously, can’t get enough.
L: If you had to give away all your personal belongings and save only 3 things, what would they be?
J: My cat Za, a muumuu, and sandals (can’t stand calluses).
So, there you have it. Now you know a little bit more about why I, and so many others, love ISHI so much. Add them to your FPSF schedule! Saturday, Mercury Stage, 6:10pm.
What’s #FridayFinds? Every Friday, I post new albums from artists we all love, or new artists that maybe we don’t know yet. Expand your music library and maybe even learn more about the artists that you live in the city you’re from.
